Ischgl in Tyrol (Austria) has a population of 1,500, 10,600 guest beds and lies at an altitude of 1,377m in Paznaun between the Silvretta and Verwall groups. The little village Mathon belongs to Ischgl. Together See, Kappl, Ischgl and Galtür form the Paznaun valley.
The former mountain farm village (Yscla - Rhaeto Romanic for island) was colonized about a thousand years ago by Rhaeto Romans from Engadin and in the 13th century by people from the Great Walser Valley.
At the end of the 19th century, tourism became a new source of income. Between 1882 and 1889, Austrian and German alpine clubs built several alpine lodges. In 1964, the Silvretta cable car lift was opened and was at the time the longest cable car lift in Austria.
Ischgl became famous for its Skiing Region - the Silvretta Arena - that connects the village with Samnaun in Switzerland.
The Silvretta Arena is one of the largest skiing regions in the Alps
with the most snow and more than 200km of slopes and 40 lifts.
You can expect fantastic slopes and well prepared pistes in the inter-connecting ski arena. Whether for carving or snowboarding … the young and young at heart from all over the world meet in Ischgl.
Every year the winter season starts at the end of November and lasts until the beginning of May. The opening and closing of the season is regularly celebrated with large pop concerts. Ischgl is characterized by the highest concentration of four-star hotels in the whole of Austria. In addition, Ischgl has a lot to offer in the way of restaurants, bars, shops, events and nightlife.
